The West Chester University marching band has a proud tradition of student involvement in the running of the program. From the day to day instruction of sectionals to the overall design and show selection, the students at WCU have a large say in what takes place.

This is not to say that there are no professional staff members with the band to lend their expertise. In the 2002 season, every member of the staff was a graduate of the West Chester program, from our Directors, Dr. Villella and Dr. Yozviak, to drill designers and wind arrangers.

The Structure of the band can be separated into three sections: General Assembly (GA), Field Operations Council (FOC), and the professional staff. This Includes Drum Majors, Coordinators, President, Vice President, Treasurer, Historian, and the Parliamentarian.

All these groups meet and coordinate to ensure best marching unit that West Chester can produce.

Joining the band is actually quite simple. There is no audition process into Marching Band, however, basic skills of the instrument and marching technique are strongly recommended. We would never turn down a valuable part of the University. Every application to attend West Chester has a box to check if one wishes to join. Even if you neglect to do that - you can contact the director before the season starts. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to go to the 'Contact Us' section, and we would be glad to help you in any way that we can. We want to make sure we're a well-oiled machine!

The Marching Band is a course* taken for credit. If you are a freshman, you should already see this on your list. If you are a sophomore or above that, you should schedule on your own. Please be reminded that students in the Music Education degree program who major on a marching band instrument are required to participate in marching band for two semesters.
